HIST 215 - American Horror Stories

Explores the cultural significance of horror narratives in American history, from Indian captivity narratives of the seventeenth century to the modern horror film. Students will interpret primary sources and secondary scholarship to understand and appreciate diverse perspectives, specifically how horror narratives reflect, reinforce, and challenge prevailing racial, gender, and social relationships. Course sections will examine the cultural influence of fear-based narratives at various stages of American history.
