Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees are two year programs, generally designed to prepare students for transfer to a 4-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree. The pre-nursing associate degree program at Chowan University is appropriate for students who ultimately wish to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

The first two years of BSN programs generally consist of core courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, psychology, sociology, and other general education courses. These are prerequisites for the last two years of specialized nursing courses, which provide discipline specific content and clinical experience.

Students who complete the pre-nursing associate degree at Chowan University have completed a course of study equivalent to the first two years of a BSN and may transfer to an institution with a BSN program to complete the last two years of nursing courses.  Students who enter Chowan University academically unprepared to take MATH 130  and CHEM 101  their first semester will take more than 4 semesters to complete this program.
