Mission Statement

The Department of Criminal Justice seeks to provide all students with a broad liberal arts education along with a balanced perspective on the study and practices of the criminal justice system. Each graduate will leave with a keen sense of human values and renewed appreciation for justice and equality. The faculty is committed to engaging and teaching students with passion and rigor, knowing that all students learn differently in a diverse environment. The Department prepares students for graduate school or professional employment by building strong skills in critical thinking, as well as written and verbal communication, analysis, and ethical consideration.

Graduates will demonstrate a mastery of skills and knowledge in the areas of criminal justice, criminal procedure, criminology, law adjudication, law enforcement, and corrections.
Graduates will be able to use criminal justice theories, methods, or investigative techniques to evaluate patterns of crime, criminalization, and victimization and be able to establish justification for an appropriate course of action.
Graduates will be able to express and interpret thoughts, ideas, and knowledge in a clear and coherent manner in both written and oral form regarding the issues in criminal justice.
Graduates will have the knowledge and background to pursue graduate studies and/or a meaningful criminal justice-related career in which they appreciate ethics and values of all individuals.
