Mission Statement
The department serves the university by providing a supportive atmosphere in which students are encouraged to be active in their learning. Students graduating from the Sport Studies program are prepared to pursue career opportunities in Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science, Recreation-Wellness-Sport, Sport Management, and Coaching. An additional purpose is to provide all students with opportunities to develop physical, social, intellectual, emotional, environmental and spiritual health. The department also provides courses in health and physical fitness that are required in the General Education core.
Educational Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of key concepts, terminology, theory and research related to their specific course of study.
- Students will demonstrate competencies in a variety of skills and competencies associated with their field of study.
- Students will be able to think critically and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and will demonstrate technological competencies.
- Students will be prepared for professional careers and/or graduate studies their specific field of study.
