Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Criminal Justice is to provide excellent educational opportunities for a diverse student population in the context of a faith-based institution. The department provides student-centered learning in a nurturing environment, integrating teaching and service. The department endeavors to teach students with sufficient depth, breadth, and rigor so they are able to critically examine issues related to crime, law, and justice and are prepared to be competitive for positions in the criminal justice systems.
- Students will demonstrate a mastery of skills and knowledge in the areas of criminal justice, criminal procedure, criminology, law adjudication, law enforcement, and corrections.
- Students will be able to use criminal justice theories, methods, or investigative techniques to evaluate patterns of crime, criminalization, and victimization and be able to establish justification for an appropriate course of action.
- Students will be able to express and interpret thoughts, ideas, and knowledge in a clear and coherent manner in both written and oral form regarding fundamental issues in criminal justice.
- Students will have the knowledge and background to pursue graduate studies and/or a meaningful criminal justice-related career.
