HIST 105 - Interpreting History The study of history fosters ways of thinking that are profoundly useful for everyday life. By transforming student roles from absorbers of information to analysts of information, this course develops the skills students need to distinguish historical fact from fiction in the digital age. Through collaboration, students will acquire critical-thinking skills and the ability to “read laterally”: discerning contexts, discovering biases, solving problems, and evaluating sources. This course will explore historical and humanities-related themes and topics to examine how human behavior impacts society. Individual course sections may study political, cultural, and social forces, movements, and organizations through the lens of art, literature, music, film, or other forms of popular culture.
