HIST 125 - Does Democracy Work? Examines the historical evolution of democracies and evaluates the role of individual citizens in their success or failure. Course topics look at dissent, mob violence, authoritarianism and other threats to democratic practice and egalitarian values. Students explore historical case studies through reading and interpreting texts (documents, articles, film, audio) with the goal of gaining greater understanding of democracy’s strengths and weaknesses.
