**Students must complete a criminal background check through Certified Background, Inc. A $35 fee will be assessed to students in EDUC 201. This criminal background check must be completed prior to the student initiating any application for fieldwork placements. Students should register at the Certified Background website (https://CertifiedBackground.com). Specific directions for access to the website will be provided early in the EDUC 201 course. Upon completion of the criminal background check, students will need to print a copy of their verification of the completed background check and submit it to their instructor. Additionally, students will need to attach a copy to their application for fieldwork. Students must be aware that public schools may not allow field work and student teaching for students with criminal background issues regardless of the student’s status with the University or the Teacher Education Program. Failure to be accepted for field experiences and student teaching placements may preclude the student from successfully completing a degree in Education. It is also possible that a student could complete the Education program and not be awarded a teaching license in North Carolina due to criminal background issues.

The members of the Unit Admissions Committee render the final admission decision.
