Mission Statement
The department serves the university by providing a supportive atmosphere in which students are encouraged to be active in their learning. Students graduating from the Sport Studies program are prepared to pursue career opportunities in Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sport Management and Coaching. An additional purpose is to provide all students with opportunities to develop physical, social, intellectual, emotional, environmental and spiritual health. The department also provides courses in health and physical fitness that are required in the General Education core.
Educational Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of key concepts, terminology, theory and research related to their specific course of study in Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sport Management and Coaching.
- Students in Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science and Coaching concentrations will demonstrate a variety of skills and tests used to measure and evaluate health, wellness, performance and physical fitness.
- Students will be able to think critically and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and demonstrate technological competencies.
- Students will be prepared for professional careers and/or graduate studies in Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sport Management and Coaching.
- Students in Health and Physical Education will demonstrate knowledge of the resources, methods, materials, theories, practices, objectives, and strategies for teaching Health and Physical Education, and how to incorporate such knowledge in exceptional and multicultural populations.
