HIST 215 - American Horror Stories

From historical accounts of witch hunts and frontier violence to the fiction of Poe and Lovecraft to the modern slasher film, horror narratives hold a significant place in the American cultural imagination. This course explores how these texts reveal and interact with significant cultural themes, such as religion, race, immigration, and social change. Students will apply academic skills of communication, collaboration, and critical analysis to evaluate the influence of fear-based narratives at various points in American history.
